Gainsborough: Get ready for the Riverside Festival

Today’s Gainsborough Riverside Festival will celebrate the arrival of the Vikings along the River Trent.

Gainsborough Goes Norse will remember Sweyn Forkbeard, King of Denmark, who beat the Ango-Saxons to be declared King of England.

He briefly ruled England and Denmark from the town, before dying five weeks later.

The festival, now in its 12th year, will have events going through the whole day, with something to entertain everyone.

It gets underway with the parade from All Saints Church at 11.30am.

There will be arts and crafts, live music through the day and night, fun fair, games and a the duck race, all culminating in an amazing firework display.

Gainsborough Old Hall has activities on from 10am to 5pm.
