Parking will be free in all council run car parks in Gainsborough from 10am onwards on 17th, 20th, 24th and 27th May.

The national campaign from 14th to 28th May aims to attract new traders and highlight the importance markets play in the heart of the local community.

Not only are they excellent business opportunities but they are also a valuable community asset.

Coun Malcolm Parish, chairman of the prosperous communities committee, urged people to get involved and support their local markets.

He said: “It is fantastic that the council is once again able to offer free parking on market days in Gainsborough to support Love Your Local Market fortnight.”

“Hopefully this will act as an additional incentive to encourage people to come along and see what the market has to offer.”

Many of the traders have been coming to Gainsborough’s market for decades, and are pleased that it continues to go from strength to strength.

Flynn Harding of Flynn’s Fruits has been standing on the market for 35 years.

He said: “Gainsborough market is a great market with good footfall, a great variety of stalls, pleasant traders and good management.”

Paula and Dave Truswell of Hosiery and Underwear have been standing on the market for over 36 years, and plan to continue until they retire.

Paula said: “We have met many traders and customers in this friendly town over the years and we just hope people continue to support and use the market in the future.”
