Gainsborough flower girls decorate festival

GAINSBOROUGH flower arrangers will help transform Lincoln Cathedral with a breath taking display of flowers from all over the world this summer.

Tens of thousands of blooms from every corner of the globe will be turned into horses, chariots and flames for the Olympic-inspired Lincoln Cathedral Flower Festival.

This year’s flower festival, from 16th - 20th August 2012, will include 130 stunning floral arrangements designed to reflect the spirit, history and international flavour of the Olympics.

Displays at the event, called Dreams of Gold, will include a running track in the Chapter House and a swimming pool in the cloister plus depictions of cycling, sailing and equestrian sports – all created using thousands of flowers shipped to the city from every continent.

Around 200 enthusiasts from 26 flower clubs across the county will spend three days transforming the cathedral into a swathe of colours, smells and sights before the doors are thrown open to the public.

Members of Gainsborough and District Flower Club will be tackling several stunning arrangements - one display for each of four participating countries Greece, Mexico, Belgium and Spain.

They will also be creating a display interpreting the myth of King Midas and ‘the Midas touch’ and the Athens Games of 2004.

The team includes club chairman Ann Bartle, Hilary Churchman, Margaret Wilson, Jennifer Keyworth, Margaret Bishop, Ann Purdy, Mary Laming, Sheila Worrell, Ann Brazil, Diana Rose, Heather Hancock and Teresa Grainger and Geraldine Forrest

Tickets £10 adults, £8 concessions and £7.20 groups. Profits go to Fabric Fund. There will be a mystery antique prize draw kindly donated by Hemswell Antique Centres.
