Gainsborough: Don’t be alone this Christmas

Anyone who is spending Christmas Day alone is invited to join the Gainsborough Christmas Day Lunch Committee for a free lunch and to turn what would have been a lonely day into a festive occasion.

The festive meal will be held on Christmas Day at Gainsborough House, Parnell Street starting with coffee, tea and mince pies at 11 am.

To get into the mood there will be Christmas carols and presents from Santa Claus.

Transport to and from the venue can be provided for anyone living in Gainsborough, Lea or Morton who can’t get their under their own steam.

Now in its 38th year, the Christmas lunch is provided free of charge thanks to generous donations from the local community.

If anyone would like to help make Christmas more cheerful for some 40 to 50 people who would otherwise be on their own, donations of any kind would be welcomed by the committee.

They can be sent to chairman Michael Wragg, care of David Belton at Gainsborough House Community Centre, 18 Parnell Street, Gainsborough, DN21 2NB.

The committee is also looking for volunteer car drivers who can give up a little of their time to help transport guests to and from the event.

Anyone who expects to be on their own and would like to be a guest at the lunch can pick up an invitation letter at Gainsborough House Community Centre or by calling 01427 811160.

Applications to attend must be returned to Gainsborough House by Monday 9th December.
