Gainsborough: Balloons are released as Alfie Williams took his final journey past his school

The funeral of Alfie Williams was held on Monday 29th June and members of the town all wanted to pay their respects to the ‘remarkable’ little boy who sadly passed away on Saturday 13th June, aged seven.

As Alfie was driven through the streets of Gainsborough staff and pupils from his primary school, St George’s C of E Community Primary School, lined up and released balloons.

Headteacher at St George’s C of E Community Primary School, Katie Berry, said: “He was an incredibly special pupil of ours so the whole school lined Park Springs Road to give him a special send off.”

“Every pupil and staff member released a balloon, complete with special message, up to the heavens as Alfie was driven past the school for the final time.”

There will be a public memorial service at the school on Saturday 11th July at 11am.

Alfie’s parents have asked that over five’s only attend the service.
