Freezing weather conditions to hit Bassetlaw

BASSETLAW is bracing itself for freezing conditions as temperatures are set to plummet this weekend.

The Met Office has forecast the minimum temperature will fall from 2C to -4C over this evening (Saturday) and tomorrow, due to arctic blasts that have been nicknamed ‘the beast from the east’.

It has issued weather warnings for snow and ice, with between five and 10cm of snow set to fall over the hills.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is warning motorists to adapt the way they drive to suit the freezing conditions.

During heavy snow, motorists are advised to only make a journey if absolutely necessary, to keep speed down, leave enough space from the vehicle in front, and allow more time for their trip.

Chief forecaster Paul Gundersen said: “All parts of the UK will see cold weather.”

“With a battle developing between the cold air in the east and mild air pushing in from the west, no one should be surprised to see sleet or snow over the weekend and next week.”

The low temperatures are set to stay until February.
