And now the cafe is offering readers a ‘little taster’- a freeportion of tasty scrambled eggs on toast, so you can see for yourself why Jilly’s is so popular.

Jilly said: “Afriend saw the cafe was to let back in 2009, and as I have always loved cooking I decided to just go for it. Back then it was known as May’s Cafe.”

“There were a lot of interested parties but the owner, Sue Huddleston, gave me a chance.

“We celebrate six years of business this month and our offer is a litle thank you to our loyal visitors, though we we always welcome unfamiliar faces.

“We’re not a chips-with-everything cafe, and I make sure I cater to those looking for healthier options. We sell fresh meatand vegetables that are prepared daily.”

Kevin Bloomer, who co-runs the cafe, believes that customer service is key.

He said: “As Jilly is often preparing the food I stay front of house chatting to customers and making them feel welcome.

“We like to keep a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and havealovely outdoor seating area.”

The menu features delicious homemade food including English breakfasts (from £3.45) roast dinners (from £4.50) and pies (with sides from £5.95) and favourites such as fish and chips, lasagne, omeletes, gammon and jacket potatoes. There is also a kids menu and selection ofyummy puddings. Jilly’s is based on 11 Gateford Road.
