The victim, who is yet to be formally identified, was taken to Bassetlaw Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem is due to be conducted to find out the cause of death.

Four boys, three aged 15 and one aged 16, remain in custody where they are being questioned this morning.

Despite speculation on social media websites that the man was stabbed, Notts Police said it could not confirm whether a weapon had been used until a post mortem examination had been done.

But the shocking incident happened in broad daylight on Worksop’s busiest shopping street, and police are now appealing for witnesses.

A cordon is still in place at the scene while forensic enquiries take place, and this may cause some disruption.

The pedestrianised area of Bridge Street will be closed today (Sunday 7th April), as will the Dorothy Perkins / Burton, Timpson and Specsavers shops. If you saw the incident or have any information call Notts Police on 101, quoting incident 771 of 6th April 2013, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
