Founder of award-winning Mansfield business to be made an MBE in New Year’s honours

The founder and managing director of Hall-Fast Industrial Supplies Ltd, based on Anglia Way Industrial Estate in Mansfield, has been recognised for his services to business.

“I am immensely proud,” he said.

“It’s something that’s not expected but I am proud to have been honoured in this way.

It’s something I don’t take lightly and receiving such an honour brings with it a responsibility.”

Malk, 41, started his business in 2006 in his back bedroom and it now has a turnover of around £2 million pounds a year and has won multiple business awards.

Hall-Fast has been held up as a good example of how to use the internet to grow your business through exporting by UK Trade and Industry (UKTI).

It exports a range of more than 200,000 products to 95 countries.

He said he did not know who had put him forward for the honour but he wanted to thank them - and he had found it hard to keep it a secret for seven weeks.

“I am glad the honour is for the business and has recognised the success of the business,” he said.

“We started in 2006 and have grown rapidly and hopefully we will continue to grow rapidly.”

Another successful local businessman, Martin Rigley, the managing director of Sutton-based Lindhurst Engineering, is also to be made an MBE for services to business and innovation.

Other Nottinghamshire residents who are set to receive honours include:

Pauline Jarvis, a CCTV Evidence Investigator for Nottinghamshire Police, is being made an OBE for services to Policing and Major Crime Investigations.

Col Timothy Richmond MBE, TD, DL, is being made an OBE for services to Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Associations and the community in Nottinghamshire.

William Turner, from Southwell, the head of governance and legal services at Nottingham Trent University, is being made an MBE for services to Higher Education.

Malcolm Scothern, from Kirkby, the chairman of the East Midlands Branch, of the Queen’s Royal Lancers Regimental Association, who has been awarded a British Empire Medal for voluntary service to ex-service personnel.
