A JUNIOR football team have this week given our Guardian Rose to their sponsor Ken Ward.

Ken Ward Sports under 11’s Football Team surprised their sponsor when several of their players visited his shop on Carlton Road.

Footballer Brandon Butterfield, 11, contacted the Guardian to nominate Ken for all his continued support, not just for his team, but to many sports clubs around Worksop.

“Ken does everything for our team,” said Brandon, of John Street.

“He provides us with kits, nets, footballs and he is always helping us.”

“It is not just for our team.”

“He deserves it for everything else he does in our community.”

“He helps with supporting the fishing teams, cricket teams and all sports in our town.”

“This is just to show him how much we appreaciate all his ongoing support and help.”

There are 15 youngsters in the team, who are currently 8th in the Kickstart Mini Soccer League.

Brandon’s mum Joanne said: “He’s been in the team since they were in the under eights.”

“Ken does everything for them.”

“Whatever the team needs, all we have to do is come down and ask Ken and he gets it. He’s brilliant and such a support.”

An embarrassed Ken was clearly touched to recieve the rose.

“It is a very kind thought,” he said.

“I got into supporting teams because it’s my business.”

“I like to encourage juniors in any way I can and support them as best I can.”

“I sort out their strips and anything else they might need. General things really.”

“It takes a lot to run a football team, so if I can support them with equipment then they can focus on the running of the club.”
