Fond tributes paid to a ‘true gentleman’

Dick Hassett died on Friday 22nd June - just a year after he retired after more than 50 years service as a practice surveyor.

Mr Hassett was also heavily involved in many organisations as well as being deputy Lord Lieutenant for Notts and magistrate from 1977-2009 and chair of the Worksop bench for five years.

Robert Ilett, former partner at Ilett and Clark solicitors, said Dick had been a close personal and professional friend for more than 50 years.

“We worked together in many organisations, most latterly the Worksop Priory and Gatehouse Community Trust of which he was chairman,” he said.

“He was a kind man of a gentle nature but he was also quite resolute and had a wonderful record of service to the community. My thoughts are entirely with his wife Jean and family - I know this will have come as a terrible blow to them.”

Notts Police Authority vice-chairman Glynn Gilfoyle said Dick was an ‘inspirational’ man.

“He was a true gentleman and always fair. He was also a well-respected champion for Bassetlaw and continued to be committed to the community long after his retirement. He will be sadly missed,” he said.

Mr Hassett’s funeral will be held at 10.45am on Monday 2nd July at Worksop’s Priory Church.
