Five star eco homes status

The eco development in Cross Street will see seven homes created on the site of the former council offices and its car park.

Originally a large Georgian house stood there, and families will soon be occupying the space again.

But what is different about these homes will be their ‘green’ credentials. And the development is on target to achieve five star eco status.

L&H Homes, based in Boston, Lincolnshire, has been given the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5 interim design certificate.

The achievement means residents will benefit from photovoltaic (solar) panels, improved insulation and high efficiency gas boilers.

These energy efficient features will save them money on energy and water bills, and benefit the environment long term.

Many new developments are now using such eco friendly measures to ensure they comply with the Government’s drive for sustainable housing.

And the Code for Sustainable Homes is designed to encourage continued improvement in the field.

Partners in the Cross Street scheme include L&H Homes which will own the properties, developer Robert Woodhead Ltd and West Lindsey District Council.

The council owned the land and part-funded the project.

Coun Malcolm Parish, chair of the Prosperous Communities Committee said: “We are delighted that the housing scheme has achieved this level of energy efficiency. The benefits will now be passed on to persons from our district who will live in the properties.”

L&H Homes managing director Mike Hardy said the sustainable homes level five code was a first for the company, but one that would be piloted in future developments.
