On Monday, the Sheffield Steelers’ coach announced the signing of Canadian right winger Jesse Schultz.

Three defencemen are also required, one of whom will be expected to have Power Play offensive quality.

Steelers have two European Union passport holders at present and need a third so that their import quota shows 11 imports plus three EU nationals.

But judging by Thompson’s knowledge of the Scandinavian player-market, in particular, finding a quality EU player should not be too difficult.

Meanwhile Nottingham Panthers have lost both Evan Mosey and Matthew Myers.
