Firefighters have this morning been called to a house struck by lightning.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews attended a home on Cross Street, Langold, at about 8.40am this morning.

The fire service added that all persons have been accounted for but the first floor of the property is 'well alight'.

Crews from Harworth, Worksop and Maltby have all attended.

An update provided just after 10am said: "Crews from Harworth and Worksop are still on the scene. Fortunately, the occupant had closed the door of the room where the fire started. This helped stop the spread of the fire and allowed them to get out. Always close doors in your home - it could save your life."
