Firefighters battling 'large fire' in Bircotes

Firefighters are battling a large fire in a Bassetlaw road this evening.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said five engines were tackling the blaze on Plum Tree Road, Bircotes.

Crews from Retford, Harworth, Mansfield, Worksop, Edlington, Stavely, Rotherham and Doncaster were called to the blaze at around 5.30pm today.

The fire service tweeted: “Five appliances are currently dealing with a large fire on Plum Tree Road, Bircotes. Smoke may be seen from some distance away."

The service later added: “Crews from Retford, Harworth, Mansfield, Worksop, Edlington, Stavely, Rotherham and Doncaster are working hard to fight the fire.

“Please avoid the area and if affected by smoke please close all doors and windows.

"The incident is starting to scale down, however we are still asking people to avoid the area and to keep all doors and windows closed."
