Fire crews rescue man trapped in mud

FIRE crews were called to Owday Lane in Carlton after reports of a man getting stuck in mud yesterday afternoon (Sunday 25th November).

The man was out walking his two dogs when he suddenly became stuck up to his knees in the muddy water-logged field.

He immediately dialled 999 from his mobile phone, with crews from Worksop, Retford and Tuxford and the specialist service rescue arriving moments later.

Worksop green watch manager Ian Cooper said crews had to use a ladder and inflatable pathways to rescue him.

“The field was extremely water-logged with the recent heavy rain and it took us around 30 minutes to get him out as he was quite a way from the road,” he said.

“He was very cold but fortunately was not hurt so he didn’t have to be taken to hospital.”

Mr Cooper warned people to take extra care when out walking in the light of recent flooding.

“Mud can be like quick sand - once you get stuck it can sometimes be very hard to get out,” he said.

“If you do go out walking, make sure you take a mobile phone with you and let someone know when you’ll be back so they can raise the alarm if you get trapped.”
