Fire on Clarence Road

Emergency services were called out to Clarence Road in Worksop at around 5.02pm where a two-storey building was well alight.

Notts Police say that they are treating the fire as ‘suspicious’.

The building is thought to be unoccupied and the fire was extinguished by 6.47pm.

Local resident Richard Griffiths lives just across from the building.

“Apparently you couldn’t see down the street because of all the smoke,” he said.

“It’s not the first time we’ve had it - a lot of the empty buildings along here have been on fire a few times.”

He added: “I’d like to see more done to improve security, but what can you do?”

Sgt John Hewitt from Worksop Police said: “We are treating this incident as suspicious and would appeal to any witnesses or anyone with any information to please come forward as our enquiries are ongoing.”
