Julian Gray, 32, from Shelley Street, denied he had stolen the lager but admitted to knowing they hadn’t been paid for.
CCTV footage spotted Gray waiting outside Sainsbury’s on the Newcastle Avenue as another man went in to the shop.
He returned and passed the cans to Gray who put them up his jumper as the pair walked off, the court heard.
