Festive babies a gift for families

Christmas and New Year brought extra cause for celebration for these two families as they welcomed new babies into the world.

The Browns, of Skinner Street, Creswell, did not expect to be having their Christmas dinner in hospital.

But they were delighted by the arrival of baby Grace who was born on 25th December.

Mum Stephanie, 30, and dad Gareth, 35, were not expecting a Christmas delivery.

With a due date of 18th December, baby Grace was more than a week late. And even the midwife didn’t predict the timely arrival.

“She came to check how Stephanie was doing just a couple of days before Christmas and said she couldn’t see any signs of labour,” said landscape gardener Gareth.

“We were all ready on Christmas Eve and then her contractions started at midnight.”

After a call to the hospital, they were advised to stay at home for a while longer.

“We finally got to bed at 5am and her waters broke at 5.45am.”

The couple made arrangements for their little boy Tristan, five, to stay with his aunty before going to Bassetlaw Hospital.

“We made sure we spent time with him before so he didn’t feel like he was missing out on Christmas day,” said Gareth.

After a long labour, Grace was finally born at 4.40pm, weighing 7lb 13oz.

“She is the best Christmas present we could have asked for,” said Gareth.

“Mum and baby are both doing well, and Tristan loves being a big brother. He can’t keep away from her.”

“We would like to say a huge thank you to all the nurses and midwives at Bassetlaw Hospital who looked after us, especially Zoe and Ellie.”

Another surprise arrival came on New Year’s Day for the Mann family from Old Gateford Road, Worksop.

At 6.10am baby Olivia Hope was born at Bassetlaw Hospital to thrilled parents Claire and Lee.

She weighed in at a healthy 7lb 13oz and her big sister Imogen, who is nearly six, is very excited.

“She loves being the oldest one now,” said Claire, 36, who works at a school in Rotherham.

The baby was due on 29th December, and being a few days late the expectant parents thought Claire might have to be induced.

“My waters broke at 4am and by 6.10am I’d had her,” said Claire.

“I was back home for New Year’s Day dinner.”

Claire also had cousins visiting all the way from Italy and Costa Rica.

Said Claire: “They were due to get their flights home a couple of days afterwards so I’m glad Olivia Hope came along in time to meet them.”

“She is absolutely beautiful. This is a lovely start to the new year.”
