Fears for homeless in derelict Mansfield warehouse as fire took hold

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a former windows manufacturer yesterday as a blaze engulfed a large area of the derelict building.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue were called at 3.45pm to Spencer Street in Mansfield to reports of a fire in the disused warehouse.

The brigade said one floor spanning 30 metres by 20 was ablaze, covering office space and a loading bay, and was extinguished by 5.08pm.

Crew manager Vincent Square at Mansfield fire station said: "It was used previously as a window manufacturers, and we received reports that there were homeless people sleeping inside the building.

“We were unsure when we got there, and were able to confirm later and there wasn't anyone inside."
