Fall in crime

CRIME in Retford has fallen 16 per cent in the last year, as the number of car thefts recorded halved.

The latest figures published by the Home Office see crime continuing to fall faster in Notts than anywhere else in the country.

All crime fell by 13 per cent between June 2010 and June 2011, putting the county joint highest with Leicestershire for crime reduction nationally.

Both the number of attacks and sexual offences went down 46 per cent in the town, with robbery falling 40 per cent and violent crime being reduced by more than a third.

Assistant Chief Constable Paul Broadbent said: “We have made massive inroads in reducing crime across the board and people are far less likely to be victims of crimes like burglary than they would have been just a year ago.”

“But we still have far to go.”
