Ex West Notts teacher scrapped with bouncers in Sutton

Robert John Dunn, 30, of Huthwaite Road, Sutton, admitted assaulting Daniel Holland and Robert Nelson outside the Picture House pub on July 2.

The two bouncers were warned by radio that Dunn had been causing problems at the Nag’s Head and was heading their way, said Robert Car, prosecuting.

When they asked him to leave, said Mr Carr: “He immediately became very aggressive and started to lash out with his hands and feet.

“Mr Nelson said he was completely uncontrollable and couldn’t recall anyone being so aggressive in all his time as a door man.”

Dunn was taken outside to Fox Street where he continued to shout and scream at them.

Mr Nelson said: “He wouldn’t go away and appeared to be fixated on causing harm to someone.”

Dunn then came at them, swinging his fists, and punched Mr Nelson on the nose. He was eventually restrained chest-down on the floor, until police arrived.

Donna Pursglove, mitigating, said: “He accepts that he was extremely intoxicated. It’s fair to say Mr Dunn came out of the incident a lot worse.”

She said he had a difficult childhood, but had done well at college and had been selected to visit the South Pole for two months.

He had been employed at West Notts College until he was unfortunately laid off, she said, whereupon he had found work as a fork-lift truck driver.

She said his partner of 14 years had left him on Father’s Day last year, which had ‘devastated’ him and sparked a habit of binge-drinking at weekends.

Magistrates gave him a 12 month community order and ordered him to carry out 125 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay court costs of £85, a victim surcharge of £85 and must pay £100 compensation to each of the door men he assaulted.
