Ex Tiger secures return to Sandy Lane as new Worksop Town boss

Ryan Hindley has been confirmed today as the man who will lead the world’s fourth oldest club into the 2017/18 NCEL Premier season.

Hindley leaves his position as manager of NCEL Division One side Hallam who finished fifth last season and went on to lose in the play-off semi-finals.

As a player, Hindley began his career with Sheffield Wednesday and when it didn’t work out in the professional game, the first club to give him a chance was Worksop Town.

He signed for Paul Mitchell and Pete Rinkcavage’s Tigers as a youngster and would later return to play for Rinkcavage in the latter stages of his playing days when the club was in exile.

At Alfreton he won four trophies in a season under now Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, and also had spells with Ilkeston, Belper, Retford, Frickley and Matlock Town.

His management career began, like Wilder’s, in the Sunday League.

Hindley took charge of Meadowhall Sunday Side the Royal Earl before becoming Hallam gaffer in October 2014.

They finished 14th at the end of that season before just missing out on the play-offs in 2015/16, taking sixth spot.

Last season Hindley’s Hallam men gave Worksop Town a stiff test in the FA Cup extra preliminary round at Sandy Lane.
