Every Worksop child counts in David Hawke Christmas toy appeal

Worksop residents are being urged to buy at least one extra toy this year and make an underprivileged Worksop child’s Christmas wish come true by donating it to the David Hawke toy appeal.

David Hawke Property Services, based at 84 Bridge Street, have set up a collection point at their store and are currently accepting new and unwrapped children’s gifts until Monday, December 21.

The toys will then be wrapped and distributed to disadvantaged youngsters around Bassetlaw just in time to be opened on Christmas Day.

Office manager Val Casey, who has been running the toy appeal for twenty years with the help of the David Hawke team, told the Guardian: “Christmas doesn’t come for all Bassetlaw children, and that’s why our toy appeal is so important.

“We want to make sure that every Bassetlaw child gets at least one present to make them smile, and we are delighted to have support from sponsors such as John Mann MP, HSBC, Bassetlaw Council and A1 Housing in our project.

“To be honest, the greatest response we have had is from the public. So many Worksop residents have come through our door and dropped off hundreds of presents- it’s amazing to see.

“One man even came in and gave us £100- he said it would make him feel better knowing the money had gone to a child that truly needed it.

“It was such a lovely moment and makes you appreciate how many kindhearted people we have in this town in the lead up to Christmas.”

Last December, the business collected a whopping 2,000 toys and are hoping to spread the festive cheer even further this year by surpassing that total.

The toy appeal runs annually from December 1 and this year anyone who donates a toy is entered into a free raffle with the chance to win a £50 Marks and Spencer voucher.

Please ensure any donated toys are new and unwrapped, designed for children up to 16 years old.
