The North Nottinghamshire Place Board, with the support of Bassetlaw District Council, is inviting residents to enter the North Notts Short Story Competition 2016 – with a first prize of £500.

All that is asked is that the story fits into the 2016 theme of Rebels and Religion and has a connection to North Nottinghamshire.

Entries should be between 4,000 and 8,000 words and should be submitted as a PDF or Word attachment and emailed to [email protected] before the closing date of Thursday, March 31, 2016.

Hodsock Priory wedding venue general manager George Buchanan, board chairman, who will present prizes to the winning authors, said: “The idea of the short story competition came about as a result of the place shaping work we did two years ago.

“It emerged that one of the three key themes that we should focus on, is what we term Storyscape, the historical past together with the tales, myths and legends that prevail in this part of the world.”

As well as a first prize of £500, the council will arrange for the story to be electronically published and the winner will receive an invitation for four people to the North Notts Literary Lunch.

There will also be a second and third prize of £100 and £50 respectively and again, the runners-up will be invited to the lunch.

Leaflets with more information and about the competition’s terms and conditions are available at Worksop library, Bookworm and on the council’s website at www.bassetlaw.gov.uk
