‘Enough is enough - I’m sick of this’

Fire crews were called out to Suzeden Caravan Camping Site on Trent Port Road in Marton, near Gainsborough at 3.10am on Sunday 4th September, where two caravans has been set on fire.

Severe damage was caused to one static caravan that was used as a shop, and arsonists also attempted to set fire to another used as an office which held records- doing over £10,000 worth of damage.

Now, after repeated attacks over a number of years, Dennis Tindale who runs the site for his wife, owner Connie, says he has had enough.

“It was about 3am on Sunday when I was woken up,” said Dennis.

“I could hear tins or something blowing up. I just came up and saw flames shooting through the roof.”

“It was going up like a Roman candle.”

The Tindales lost over £10,000 worth of stock in the blaze that engulfed the shop.

“I’m disappointed for my wife because she has put so much work into this, and we’re providing a service for the community,” he said.

However, Dennis said that this isn’t the first time that criminals have targeted the site.

“This is the ninth attack we’ve suffered in six years,” said Dennis. “All of them arsons.”

“This is minimal in comparison to others. I’d say we’ve had about £1 million worth of damage over the years. Someone has set fire to hay bails before too.”

He continued: “It’s a big problem.”

“There’s crime like this everywhere - whether it’s attacking livestock and letting them out or stealing diesel or any bit of scrap metal they can find.”

Dennis added: “I just want to see something done. Enough is enough, I’m sick of this.”

A spokesman from Lincolnshire Police said: “We are treating this incident as an arson investigation and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to get in touch and help police with their enquiries.”
