Police appealed for information after Trevor Smith, of Bowling Green Lane, Wirksworth, went missing on Monday night.
However the search ended when mountain rescue teams found a body, believed to be that of the 42–year–old, in Middle Peak Quarry on Tuesday.
Mr Smith, who was also known by his stage name Trevor Hancock, had made numerous television and film appearances over the years, including parts in Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and No Angels.
He also co–founded Wirksworth theatre company Men in Dressing Gowns with fellow actor Darren John Langford in 2006.
Mr Smith was last seen at his home at 9.42pm and had been wearing blue jogging bottoms, a black padded jacket with green parka coat over the top and a maroon and grey wool hat. He also had plaster casts on both wrists.
Twenty members of Derby Mountain Rescue Team, as well as a specialist search dog, took part in the operation to find him, which focussed on the Wirksworth and Middleton area.
A spokesman for the team said: “It’s very sad that there was not a positive outcome to the search.
“We’d like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased person at this most difficult time.”
The body, which matches the description of Mr Smith, has not yet been formally identified, but the police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.
He had previously been represented by Actors Direct, who declined to comment at this time.
