Once completed, the flyover will ensure drivers going and to and from the village will no longer have to negotiate a difficult junction with the A1.

The proposed site for the new bridge will be between Coalpit Lane and Jockey Lane, spanning the A1, while the current junction between Jockey and Lane and Cross Lane will be closed.

“This is great news for the village and has been long-awaited,” said Parish Council chairman Neil Oldbury,

“It will mean that when there is an accident on the A1, we will not be effectively cut off, as we are at the moment.”

“Hopefully it will also see more people choosing to come and live or work in Elkesley, at the school for example, as they will not be put off by the thought of having to tackle that junction every day.”
