Elderly woman injured in ‘horrific’ attack

A MANHUNT is underway after an elderly Worksop woman fought off a burglar armed with a six-inch knife in her home.

The 88-year-old woman, who police haven’t named, came face-to-face with her attacker on Saturday night around 9.45pm.

He demanded money from the woman but she refused, tried to fight him off, and suffered a cut to her hand during the struggle.

The burglar carried out a search of her home before fleeing on foot. It is not thought anything was stolen.

He is described as white, wearing a grey hooded top, which was pulled over his face, and blue jeans.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Detective Sergeant Rick Jones, from Newark CID, said the elderly woman was ‘extremely shaken’ by what had happened.
