The 81-year-old was travelling in a Ford KA which collided with a Peugeot 106 at the junction of the A57 and Mansfield Road, around 2.40pm.
Firefighters had to free her from the car before she was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield for treatment.
The road was reopened at 4.50pm.
