It is always heartwarming to hear about a family turning a tragedy into something positive.

And that is exactly what we have seen this week from Greg and Gill Packard, of Rydal Drive, Worksop.

The couple lost their son Lee after he was hit by a car 12 years ago - an horrific accident many readers will remember.

Lee passed away at the Children’s Hospital on Christmas Eve 12 years ago.

Through all the heartbreak the family endured, Greg and Gill were overwhelmed by the care Lee received and grateful for the extra week they had to share with their son before he died.

The family, including Lee’s older brother Drew, have raised over £8,000 in the years since Lee’s death. At his funeral, they asked for donations to The Children’s Hospital Charity, and held a huge fancy dress party for his 18th birthday in 2008, attracting more than 350 people.

Now they are at it again - organising an Hawaiian-themed party in a bid to raise even more money for the hospital.

The party is tonight at St Joseph’s Social Club, Prospect, Worksop, at 7pm and should be a perfect opportunity for everyone to get in the festive spirit.

The money raised by the event will go to the hospital charity’s Make it Better appeal.
