Editor’s comment: Terminally ill dad’s bravery stands out for all to see

We are fortunate at the Guardian to to be able to tell inspirational stories about people from the town every week.

But 23-year-old Tom Bradshaw’s remarkable bravery stands out for all to see. The young Worksop dad is terminally ill with a rare form of cancer which doctors initially failed to diagnose. For this to happen to a young man in the prime of his life with a young family to support is a tragedy.

Terminally ill dad plans wedding and records bedtime stories for baby daughter after doctors missed cancer symptoms

I am sure many people placed in Tom’s position would have retreated from life because of the unfairness of it all.

But Tom told us this week he was determined to ‘always be with his daughter’, 10-month-old Willow, and so set about making this a reality.

Tom came up with the brilliant idea of recording bedtime stories so Willow can hear his voice after he passes away. He has recorded readings from books for all ages, from Fireman Sam to Harry Potter. And Tom has also announced that he will fulfill his wish of marrying Chelsea, his girlfriend of six years, next month.

Chelsea told us that every minute is precious, and I hope Tom and his family are able to make the most of the time they have left together.
