The data was validated by NHS Protect, with all other data the responsibility of The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC).

In total there were 115 physical assaults on employees at the EMAS Trust with 18 of the assaults involving medical factors and 97 assaults not involving medical factors.

NHS Protect spokesman said: “Care should be taken when comparing assault figures as there are many factors which may influence a health body’s published figures.”
