Best friends Gavin Forshaw and Steve Carroll are set to take on the 30-mile charity hike, which will start in Worksop and end at a Lincoln pub, on Saturday, July 2.

The duo, who met at Hartland Comprehensive School as teenagers, hope to raise “as many funds as possible” for Cancer Research UK after completing the feat.

Gavin said: “Steve and I already do long-distance walking for fitness, but figured that we might as well walk for a good cause as well.

“We both have family members and friends who have been touched by cancer.

“Sadly, some of these people have have gone on to lose their battles.

“So in their memory, and in order to help Cancer Research UK find a cure quickly, we decided to do this walk for charity.”

Gavin and Steve have been training for the event by completing ten and 16-mile walks around Worksop.

Family members will be on hand to cheer the pair on in a support car which will be on stand-by along the route.

“The walk will end at a pub, which I’m admittedly quite relieved about. The prospect of a free pint should keep us going,” added Gavin.

“Hopefully this sponsored walk will be the first of many.

“We’re hoping to muster up the courage walk from Worksop to Skegness soon, which is nearly 70 miles - about double the distance of the Lincoln walk. We’d like to thank everyone who has donated so far- we also held a fundraiser at Manton Athletics Club which was successful. To date we have raised around £300 between us.”
