Drunk thug kicked officer while he was driving police car

A drunken thug who tried to kick an officer while he was driving a police car has been handed a suspended sentence.

Stephen Paul Allen, of South Drive, Bilsthorpe also bit another officer after he had been arrested.

The 29-year-old had got into an argument with his partner, for whom he is a carer, and officers were called out to his flat at around 1am on January 16.

Appearing at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court this week, The case was outlined by prosecutor Robert Carr who said the police found that he was drunk and tried to put handcuffs on him.

When he resisted he was taken to the floor by officers and eventually detained.

However, he continued to be abusive, saying he was going to bite their faces, spit on them and kill them.

He then lashed out while in the back of the police car, kicking the gear box and catching the driver, causing him to swerve.

Luckily, nothing was coming in the way in the opposite lane.

He then began resisting at Mansfield Police Station and had to be taken to then ground again when trying to put him in a cell, where he bit another officer’s leg, although he caused no injury.

Mitigating, Michael Little said Allen had been under a lot of stress, firstly as a the full-time carer of his partner, and that his mother was seriously ill.

He added: “He fully accepts that he lost his head.

“He deeply regrets his actions.”

Allen admitted two counts of assaulting police officers.

The court was told how Allen had a history with police, that he did not like them, and had appeared in court in 2012 after assaulting a police officer.

Mr Little said his client was now prepared to work on his relationship with the law.

He was handed 16 weeks’ jail, suspended for 18 months, made to pay £100 compensation to each officer and £85 costs.
