Driver of stolen car is locked up

A GAINSBOROUGH man caught driving a stolen car was jailed for 13 months at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday.

Aiden McGhie, 19, was stopped in the town as he drove the stolen Nissan convertible.

Jonathon Dee, prosecuting, said the car was one of two vehicles stolen following a raid on a house 48 hours earlier.

Keys for both cars were taken, and the second vehicle was found crashed shortly after the burglary.

Police spotted McGhie driving the Nissan in convoy with a second car but they split up after realising they had attracted attention.

Officers followed the Nissan down a lane and after the car stopped McGhie was arrested.

McGhie, of Warren Close, admitted handling stolen goods on 11th March together with driving without a licence and without insurance.

He also admitted breach of an earlier suspended jail sentence. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Judge Sean Morris said: “The time has come to lock you up. This car was taken in a professional burglary and you were paid big money to drive it.”

Michael Cranmer-Brown, defending, said McGhie had accepted an offer of £300 to move the car from Saxilby and succumbed to the temptation.
