Drink driver gets banned

A WORKSOP driver involved in a road accident had drunk almost double the legal limit, a court heard.

James Cusack, 22, of Windmill Lane, lost control of a car in Worksop Road, Whitwell, on 21st July.

Sherall Pickford, prosecuting, told magistrates at Chesterfield the car hit a wall and road signs. Police arrived and Cusack gave a reading of 69mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath.

John Wilford, defending, said he drove to Clowne with a pal who had agreed to drive the car back to Worksop.

“His friend changed his mind and Mr Cusack made a foolish decision to drive. He says the alcohol didn’t cause the accident. He believes a burst tyre caused him to skid.”

Cusack admitted drink-driving. He was banned for 17 months and fined £125, with £85 costs.
