The bench at Worksop Magistrates’ Court told Ramunas Dambrauskas that their sentencing powers were not sufficient.

The 35-year-old, of Craithie Road, Doncaster, admitted dangerous driving and driving above the legal alcohol limit on the A1 on 30th March.

Prosecutor Catherine Picardo said at least three cars were involved, all of which ended up on their roof, but fortunately no-one was killed.

She said Dambrauskas’ driving involved him overtaking aggressively and flashing his lights for a prolonged distance, making two of the drivers ‘very nervous.’

She added that Dambrauskas initially told police he did not think his driving was poor, but when he was told what witnesses had seen he admitted that his driving ‘fell far below’ the standards of a competent driver.

Defence solicitor David Verity said Dambrauskas, who spoke in court through an interpreter, had been living in the UK for five years with his partner and five children.

He was on the way to Tuxford to pick up workers when the accident happened, said Mr Verity.

He added that his client had a couple of bottles of beer before setting off and that he was not in any particular rush to get to Tuxford.

Magistrates imposed an interim driving ban and sent the case to Nottingham Crown Court. Dambrauskas will be notified of his date in court in due course.
