Donations for Delilah

DONATIONS and messages of support have been pouring in for the owner of a cat who was shot with a suspected air rifle in Retford earlier this month.

Annette Pearson, of King Edward Terrace, said her Bengal Tiger cat Delilah is making a slow but sure recovery since she returned home last week.

Delilah was fighting for her life in Portland House Veterinary Surgery, Retford, after she was shot in the Pennington Walk area on Saturday 8th October.

Annette said she has received many heartfelt messages and card from people since the “devastating” incident and thanked them for their support.

“It’s so good to have her home. I’m still very choked about it and going to and from home and work. It’s really hit me hard,” she said.

“I’ve had so many nice cards and even donations from people towards the vet bills, which have totalled over £2,000. I just wasn’t expecting this to happen.”

Annette said the incident has affected Delilah in more ways than one.

“She used to be such an outgoing cat - now she doesn’t leave my side and keeps bumping into things,” she said.

“I still can’t believe someone could do this to a cat and want them caught - anyone who has any information, please get in touch.”

Police say the RSPCA has been informed and the local Neighbourhood Policing Team has been carrying out enquiries in the area to find those responsible.

Retford Pc Gareth Nicholls said: “It is heartbreaking for any pet owner to see their beloved animal injured and there is absolutely no justification for it.

“There may be someone out there who saw a person or people acting suspiciously in the Pennington Walk area that night. Maybe they thought nothing of it at the time, but I urge them to come forward so that we can arrest the cowards responsible for this cruel act.”

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact Notts Police on 0300 300 99 99.
