Dogs die in house fire

THREE dogs died in a fire at a house in Worksop last weekend.

The fire service was called to the house on Priorswell Road at around 2.50pm on Sunday 6th January.

Firefighters rescued five dogs from the house, but sadly three had not survived the blaze.

The two surviving dogs were taken to a local vets for treatment.

An investigation which was carried out into the cause found that the fire started accidently when some paper caught fire.

A Notts Fire and Rescue spokesman said two fire crews from the Worksop station were sent because initially they believed that the homeowners were inside the house.

He said: “It later transpired that the owners were out in Retford.”

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, two hoses and a fan to extinguish the blaze and ventilate the property.

They left the house shortly before 4pm.

The spokesman said that the fire was isolated to the kitchen and left it, and the ceiling above, which connected to a bedroom upstairs, severely damaged.

The rest of the house was damaged by smoke from the fire, he added.
