Employees from Tesco waded through overgrown weeds and plants including nettles and brambles to clear the area around the Scout hut on Laughton Road, enabling the disabled access to be used.

The work has now inspired Scouts and their leaders to clear another section of the land themselves, which will allow them to do outdoor activities such as fire building.

Linda Beasley, scout leader for Dinnington (22nd Rotherham), said the partnership between the group and Tesco came around after Scouts did a bag pack at the store.

She said: “The managers asked what we were fundraising for and we told them it was pay someone to come and clear the area. They volunteered three staff members who came and did it all for free. A big thank you to Tesco - it was a lot of work.”

The staff members were recently presented with Scout badges as a way of saying thank you.

Linda added that the work now means that people with mobility issues can get into the Scout hut. The money raised at the bag pack will now go to purchasing lightweight camping equipment.
