Dinnington: Swimming pool to reopen its doors

A swimming pool in Dinnington which closed after less than two years is to reopen its doors.

But the owner of the pool desperately needs local residents to pledge their support to the project in order to make it a successful community pool.

Barbara Wilding has taken over the lease of the building on Brooklands Park Industrial Estate, fulfilling a life-long ambition to run a swimming pool.

It comes just a few months after the pool closed its doors when its owners went into administration and just days before the landlord was due to fill it in.

Barbara said: “I am asking the community of Dinnington to pledge their support to the project.”

“I have grants of between £10,000 and £30,000 available but I need evidence that the people of Dinnington and surrounding areas will use the pool and it will be a viable project.”

Barbara said she already has support from Dinnington Comprehensive, primary schools and community groups, who said they are wanting to use the pool.

“I need people to email me and say they would use the pool,” added Barbara, who previously ran a successful swimming pool in Grantham.

As well as opening the pool for lessons and classes, Barbara also plans to open the cafe and covert a room upstairs into a function room and bar.

She is also planning to team up with small businesses to run courses in the building and apply for funding so people can swim for just 50p.

She added: “There is also scope when the timetable is up and running to open up the pool for the public for leisure use.”

Barbara describes herself as a ‘one man band’ but hopes to employ a team of local workers at the pool, previously known as Aquafyn Swimming and Training Centre.

“I can’t wait (to open). It has always been my dream to own my own swimming pool that I can manage,” she said.

“I’ve worked for people before and thought I could do a better job and now is my chance.”

“There will be job opportunities for local people.”
