A Dinnington man has been jailed after he was caught trying to burgle a shop.

Paul Rodgers, of Leicester Road, was sent down during a hearing at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court this week.

He admitted attempted burglary after trying to break into a general store on Lordens Hill in Dinnington, at around 10pm on Sunday 5th January 2014.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted burglary, and hauled before the court two days later.

At the hearing on Tuesday 7th January, magistrates sentenced the 42-year-old to 18 weeks in prison.

South Yorkshire Police hailed the conviction as a successful legacy of its Operation Lockdown scheme launched in October last year.

The operation was aimed at combating burglary and vehicle crime, and has seen more than 700 suspects arrested so far.
