Dinnington: Life-saving machine to be installed at Anston Parish Hall

A machine that could save lives will be installed at Anston Parish Hall for members of the public to use in an emergency.

A demonstration on how to use the “defibrillator”, a device which delivers an electric shock to the heart during cardiac arrest, will take place at the parish hall on Monday 3rd March.

If a heart attack occurs, members of the public will be able to access the machine, which will be locked in a secure cabinet, by calling the emergency services.

They will then given a code to open the cabinet and be directed how to use the defibrillator over the telephone.

Coun John Ireland, chair of the parish council, said: “It is wonderful to know that a life might be saved just by using this piece of equipment and we are delighted to be able to install it.”

“With many sports and children’s groups that use the parish hall and grounds, along with the church hall and cricket club nearby, it’s important to have the defibrillator available in emergencies.”

The money for the defibrillator was raised by the local community during Anston festival day and at the parish bonfire last year.

It will cost around £850-£900 to install.

Mr Ireland added: “We are very proud that the money raised for the defibrillator was a result of public effort.”

“We would like to thank all of those who helped raise funds for this essential piece of equipment.”

Defibrillators have already been installed at Todwick and Woodsetts as part of the Community Public Access Defibrillation project.

It is hoped lives will be saved as a result of the scheme, as defibrillation can increase survival rates as high as 75 percent if delivered quickly.

The free demonstration will be hosted by Emma Scott from South Yorks Ambulance Service, who helped to co-ordinate the purchase of the device.

Members of the public and community groups are invited to come along to see how they can help to save a life.

Starts at 6.30pm. Telephone the parish hall on 01909 560949 for more information, or email [email protected].
