Dinnington: Adult Disability Learning support group appeals for new members to ensure its survival

The Adult Learning Difficulties (ALD) Club is a non-profit making organisation run by the parents of adults with learning difficulties.

The club was brought into being by parents who were concerned that their family members were lacking a social life and needed a place where they could go on a regular basis.

This allowed them to meet up with friends in a supervised environment.

The club also provides parents and family with a break from the demands of caring.

“Due to the economic downturn, the club has recently been experiencing problems with regard to funding,” said spokesman Kevan Roe.

“However over the past few months a number of parents have been very actively fund raising and with the generous backing of MP Kevin Baron, local councillors and a number of local businesses, they have managed to get the club back into a financially stable position.”

“The closure of the club would have been devastating for the members, most of whom have little or no other evening social life. “

“It is therefore very important that we keep the club going and we must now actively look for new members as our numbers have depleted over the past two years.”

The club meets at the Middleton Institute in Dinnington every Tuesday from 7-9pm.
