The service was awarded the accolade of highly commended in the emergency services sector at an awards ceremony in Birmingham.

In recognition of their commitment to occupational health and safety, Derbyshire’s senior HR partner Davinder Johal and transport assistant Claire Smith, accepted the award on behalf of the service.

Chief fire officer and chief executive Sean Frayne said: ‘Derbyshire takes the health and safety of all its employees extremely seriously.”

“DFRS is pleased to once again have its health and safety management system acknowledged by RoSPA.”

“Being highly commended in the emergency services sector is a real achievement. It is an honour that RoSPA has recognised the effort and resources we put into health and safety. This really is testament to the hard work and dedication of all of Derbyshire’s employees.’

The award is a valued addition to a long line of awards presented to Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service by RoSPA since 2001.

From 2004 to 2010, the service has received seven gold achievement awards for continuous improvement, judged as winner of the emergency services sector in 2011, commended for the same award in 2012 and the highly commended award this year.

Itis the third year in succession that Derbyshire’s occupational health and safety management system has been acknowledged as one of the top three in this sector.

“It is a highly competitive category which saw the entry being judged against other emergency services.
