Derbys: Council gritters on are 24-hour standby

Gritter drivers at Derbyshire County Council are gearing up for a busy week ahead as winter weather sets in.

With freezing temperatures forecast and the possibility of snow on higher ground, gritters will be on standby around the clock to help keep the county’s roads clear.

Coun Dean Collins said: “By providing 24 hour cover, we can respond to weather conditions as and when needed.”

“We treat around 1,555 miles of roads and we’ve also got 53 farmers and other contractors lined up to clear snow from roads which aren’t on our gritting routes and local councils signed up to help clear paths and pavements in their communities.”
