Disruptions were caused to rail services travelling between Worksop and Mansfield Woodhouse after a lorry got wedged under a railway bridge in Gateford Road, Worksop.

Trains were temporarily suspended when the vehicle got stuck under the bridge at around 1pm this afternoon (Thursday, October 29).

The lorry was too tall to pass through the Iron Bridge and appeared to get wedged under the bridge ceiling, causing an impasse.

Passengers travelling on the Nottingham to Worksop train were unable to get off at Shirebrook, Whitwell, Langwith-Whaley Thorns and Creswell earlier today.

The lorry has since been removed and services can run from Mansfield Woodhouse to Worksop normally again after the bridge was declared safe.

In a statement, East Midlands Railway said: “Services on our Nottingham-Worksop route are unable to run between Mansfield Woodhouse and Worksop due to a road vehicle striking a bridge.

"Work to remove the vehicle and inspect the bridge is underway.
