Crowds turned out for a “fantastic day” of fun and food at Gainsborough’s Marshall’s Yard for the shopping centre’s third annual Big Food Event.
Chefs from local restaurants prepared their signature dishes, giving shoppers some top cooking tips as well as the chance to sample their recipes.
Chefs from NYC Bar and Grill, in Bawtry, and Root and Cream, from Marshall’s Yard, cooked up a treat in a pop- up kitchen at the centre with a range of speciality dishes, from healthy juices to a variety of sliders and that British summer favourite, scones with clotted cream and jam.
The centre also hosted the monthly farmers’ and craft market as part of the event –and, despite the wet weather in the morning ,shoppers still managed to enjoy the Wimbledon tennis finals on the centre’s big screen.
A pop up Wimbledon-themed bar was also organised, selling prosecco and strawberries.
A vintage double decker red London bus was also laid on free of charge to bring passengers into Marshall’s Yard for the day from Bawtry, Everton, Gringley-on-the-Hill and Beckingham.
Charlotte Toplass, Marshall’s Yard’s assistant centre manager, said the team at the Yard were delighted with how the event had gone.
She saidd: “This is the third year we have held our Big Food event and we’ve had some great feedback from our shoppers and visitors.
“We added straw bales to the cookery demonstration area this year so people could shelter from the weather and enjoy the cookery show put on by our local chefs.
“This event particularly gave our newest eatery Root the opportunity to showcase its unique offer and educate shoppers on why it makes its fresh juices, smoothies and snacks in the way it does.
“Having the Wimbledon’s finals on the same weekend meant we could celebrate British sport also and enjoy the tennis.”
