David and Max to carry the torch at riverside parade

So are these two little lads who will play an important role on the day - carrying the festival torches.

David Peart and Max Underwood-Frost have been kitted out with their torchbearers costumes by local fancy dress firm Smiffy’s.

It all ties in with the theme of this year’s 11th Riverside Festival - Going For Gold.

The pair, who are winners of the Gainsborough Standard’s competition to find two torchbearers, will head up the parade on Saturday 16th June.

They will have the privilege of holding their Riverside Torches high in the air while they represent Gainsborough and meet VIP guests.

“We have also got some street activities taking place in Whitton’s Gardens to tie in with the Olympic theme,” said organiser Gary Cooke.

“We are really pleased with how the programme has come together and there will be around 40 stalls along the riverside with many local organisations are represented.”

Festival organisers hope families will be encouraged to get active and take part in the fun activities on offer at Whitton’s Gardens.

Test your football skills with a keepie-uppie competition, or try out one of Aegir Cycling Club’s road bikes.

Or perhaps running is your strength. Gainsborough and Morton Striders invite you to try their 100 metre dash.

Everyone Active, who run West Lindsey Leisure Centre, are holding mixed game challenges with prizes at 3pm. There will also be children’s activities and water safety sessions.

Gainsborough Rotary Club are hoping to have a rolling road at their pitch where people can try out their pedal cars ahead of August’s Grand Prix.

The gardens are sure to be a real buzz of activity and excitement. And pupils from Trent Valley Academy will provide the soundtrack with an open-mic session.

Further down at Chapel Staithe the ever-popular Earthbound Misfits will entertain the crowds with their crazy circus skills.

And at Sandars Yard the performance stage is jam packed with an entertaining line-up to last all day and night.

Chairman of the Riverside Festival Committee Tim Davies said: “It’s going to be a fun day for all the family so everyone should come on down and enjoy it.”

“We’ve got the fun fair of course, and a fantastic Blues Brothers tribute band headlining the performance stage followed by the spectacular fireworks display.”
